What do you think is common between urogenital candidiasis, candidal vulvovaginitis, genital fungus? It’s simple: those terrible terms can be combined in one succinct word: thrush. No, not a conditional friend merry milkman, and a most unpleasant disease, which is found not only in women but also in men and even newborns.

What is a yeast infection
Thrush: the symptoms and treatment of Thrush — a fungal disease caused by yeast fungi of the genus Candida and affects the mucous membrane of the vagina (Candida can also affect the mouth, nail plates). Interestingly, in the conditions of the large intestine of the person this fungus is a normal representative of the microflora, but it is worth it just to get to the vaginal mucosa, as he immediately shows his hitherto dormant pathogenic entity. In the specialized medical literature have seen drastically different numbers on the incidence of yeast infection: according to one source, about 30% of women at least once even faced with this disease, other sources give 70%. It seems that the second digit is closer to the truth, as many women simply don’t go to the doctor and trying to self-treat.
Causes of thrush
As I mentioned above, Candida refers to a conditionally-pathogenic inhabitants of the vast expanses of the human body and so she tore off the mask of integrity, we need a number of conditions. In the first place should be dysbiosis of the vagina. It is with a probability close to 100% occurs, for example, the abuse of antibiotics, which cause “confusion and vacillation” in the microflora of the vagina. This “revolutionary” environment is very favorable to Candida, which begin to multiply rapidly. Conclusion: self-respecting physician in conducting antibiotic therapy will prescribe another and antifungal agent. This, of course, is not the only cause of yeast infection, among which:
- reduced immunity during pregnancy;
- diabetes mellitus;
- urogenital infections;
- hormonal disorders;
- prolonged use of intrauterine contraception;
- constant wearing synthetic underwear;
- a change of climate.
A small digression
This Chapter is necessary for understanding what the transfer of yeast infection remains unclear. So, it would seem, what can be no doubt: the disease is localized on the genital mucosa, therefore, the route of transmission — sexual. But not so simple. Today it is only one of the versions. Candidiasis not even related to sexually transmitted diseases. There is a theory that the source of infection is their own gastrointestinal tract (GIT). In General, the question which component plays in the incidence of candidiasis a big role, endogenous or exogenous, remains open.
The symptoms of yeast infection
There are three forms or stages of thrush:
The symptoms of yeast infection in women is a white plaque the appearance of bubbles the duration of the acute stage usually does not exceed two months, during which they highlighted the clinical manifestations of the disease like vaginal discharge of cheesy consistence, accompanied by an unpleasant odor, itching and burning in the genital tract, the appearance of bubbles in the muddy okolovrusno region, swelling of the mucous membrane of the vagina. All these symptoms occur mostly in the evening or at night, and after sexual contact.
The chronic form is characterized by a long (over two months) course, and periodic (more than 4 times per year) exacerbations.
Candidatesto does not give any clinical manifestations: Candida are sown, but not in the active form, as in budding.
Thrush: treatment of women
Currently, the shortage of medicines from the thrush in pharmacies not observed.
Medicines for thrush:
- nystatin in the form of tablets, ointments and vaginal plugs;
- levorin in the form of pills and ointments;
- amphotericin b ointment and powder for reconstitution;
- clotrimazole (candid) in the form of tablets, gels, solutions, creams, ointments;
- ketoconazole (nizoral) in the form of tablets and vaginal plugs;
- Itraconazole (Orungal, ironin, rumicis) in the form of solutions, tablets, capsules;
- griseofulvin in pill form.
Until recently, all of these antimycotic tools were successfully applied in the treatment of candidiasis. But the fungus Candida was not so simple: he is sly acquired relative resistance to most of the above drugs (nystatin, levorin, amphotericin b, clotrimazole, ketoconazole). Therefore, the currently used drug for the treatment of yeast infection is fluconazole (tablets, capsules, powder). He is good against several types of Candida, well absorbed and easy to digest.
Treatment of thrush in women can be local (ointments, creams, suppositories and solutions) and shared (tablets, capsules).
Thrush in men
About the characteristics of the flow and treatment of thrush in men I decided to tell in a separate Chapter, because the article, as you can see, focused more on the urogenital candidiasis in women who suffer from thrush almost 10 times more often representatives of the stronger sex.
