The experiment conducted by the researchers using nanoparticles of gold and a powerful light emission, have shown good results in the struggle with bacteria and allowed to destroy even the most tenacious organisms in just a few seconds.
Heat-resistant bacteria were killed within 25 seconds, Scientists from the University of Houston (Texas, USA) has developed a fundamentally new method of suppression of pathogenic microflora. In experimental conditions the experts placed the bacteria on the top layer of nanoparticles, after which brovelli heating of the light flux to a temperature above 200 degrees Celsius. The destruction of microorganisms that are resistant to high temperatures, was 25 seconds, the pathogen that do not exhibit heat resistant properties, stopped their livelihoods for a few seconds.
The appearance of a nanoparticles made of gold is a disk having a porous structure and a size of 400 nanometers. These characteristics allow nanoparticles to convert absorbed light flux of a specific wavelength into heat energy. This phenomenon is called plasmon resonance, for its origin requires the conditions under which a certain angle of incidence of luminous flux on the surface will prevent the reflection of light and will cause the oscillation of free gas inside the metal, which heats the nanoparticles themselves.
For the experiment, experts have selected some microogranisms such as Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis, experiments were conducted on heat-resistant bacterium Exiguobacterium, reproducing at a high temperature in the hot springs of Yellowstone national Park. Microogranism placed on the surface of nanocast received infrared radiation for 5-30 seconds. Scientists have documented that a colony of E. coli was destroyed in five seconds, and two other species of bacteria it took a little more time, they died in less than 25 seconds. However, no nanoparticles separately or infrared cure by itself did not exert destructive action on bacteria.
The discovery, made by scientists, will help to develop new approaches to the destruction of the bacteria in those conditions, when you need complete sterility. On the work reported in the publication “Optical Materials Express”.
